The hotel’s history stretches all the way back to the early Middle Ages. Our boutique hotel is located in the Goldgasse lane, at the very heart of Salzburg's historic Old Town.

The route the Goldgasse follows dates back two thousand years, to the Roman Empire. Back then, the city of Salzburg was still known as Iuvavum. Over the centuries, the lane has also been named “Sporer”, “Milch” (milk) or “Schlossergässchen” (locksmith) lane. A “Sporer” was a metalsmith who made equestrian fittings, such as spurs. The city burned down more than a dozen times during the Middle Ages. However, the route of today’s Goldgasse didn’t change much during the buildings’ various periods of reconstruction. The street begins at the Alten Markt (Old Market) and curves around to the Residenzplatz and the Salzburg Cathedral. Although this lane was also home to craftsmen such as wire-pullers, metalsmiths, bell founders and glaziers, the street received its current name “Goldgasse” because of the gold and silversmiths who once lived here.

History buffs can delight in the many historical details. For example, the lane is lined with shops with large, green wooden doors, which were usually constructed to fold multiple times to save space. They were typically installed to protect the tradesmen’s vaulted workshops. To enter most of the houses and shops, you pass through ancient stone arches constructed in the 15th and 16th centuries using Salzburg conglomerate rock – that was the most popular building material in and around Salzburg back then, especially because it was abundantly available.

I`m glad you personally for all your questions and concerns. With the takeover of the hotel in January 2009, there was a concern to us combine the charm of the over 800 year old town house with the comfort and luxury of a modern designer hotel. Each of our 15 rooms is unique and characterized by individual design and decoration carefully selected. Of course we have all our rooms with air conditioning and wireless LAN. Enjoy the bustle of the center of the cultural city of Salzburg and the peace and comfort in our hotel. The boutique hotel at the cathedral was rebuilt in June 2009 for the four star designer hotel offers guests the best service and comfort for a delightful stay in the heart (pedestrian zone) of the culture capital of Salzburg. Just outside the front door you can reach all the cultural and historical sights on foot and take the flair of the old town as an unforgettable experience home with them. Our parking facilities are located approximately 5 minutes away on foot in the old garage.

The room has two single beds. Available for 1 or 2 people, ideal for families as an additional room. The rooms are available at the Herbert von Karajan and the Salzburg Festival floor. Double room standard
The standard double rooms are all facing the courtyard and are therefore extremely quiet. They are present in everyone, Herbert von Karajan, festival, Mozart and Domblick floor. No bed available. Arrival
The Hotel am Dom is located right in the old town of Salzburg which is a pedestrian area.

Arrival by car: You can leave the car in the nearby underground car park "Altstadt-Parkgarage" (Altstadtgarage B, Hildmannplatz, Neutor) and walk from there to the hotel (approx. 5-minute walk). Until 11 a.m. it is possible to enter the pedestrian area by car via Mozartplatz and Residenzplatz for unloading your luggage. (Afterwards access to the pedestrian area is only permitted by entering a code.)

Arrival by taxi or public transport: You can reach the hotel at Goldgasse 17 by taxi (about 10-minute drive from the train station) or by public transport: bus lines from the Salzburg main station: numbers 3, 5, 6 or 25; exit at "Rathaus".

Parking
During your stay with us you can easily and comfortably park in the nearby underground car park (additional cost per day) that is just a 5-minute walk away.
Due to the hotel's central location in the city, its sights are within easy walking distance.
